A.K. Raina, an Indian artist was born in 1938 in Srinagar, Kashmir. Raina gave up his studies at college to join School of Arts, Trivandrum, Kerela and his artistic journey began as a craftsman in 1959. His inclination towards painting started in the mid 1960s. He was also elected as a secretary of Kashmir Artist Group (KAG) in 1974. There is an element of poignancy in his paintings which is reflected in a subtle way. Raina was mainly inspired by the creations of divine nature and picturesque surroundings found all over in his hometown Kashmir. The creativity of Raina was influenced to a great extend by the terrain changing from smooth rolling hills to massive mountain peaks. He was also selected by National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad for a training programme of “Craft Design” in 1981. He also attended All India Artist Camp, Ganderbal, Kashmir, 1975; Rashtriya Kala Kendra, LKA (Lalit Kala Akademi) “Painters Camp Samath”, Varanasi, 1992.
