S. Nandgopal

S. Nandgopal, born in 1936 was one of the Indian sculptor and artist. He was well known for the modernist art. He studied Bachelor in Physics from the University of Madras in 1960s and later on joined the Government College  of Fine Arts, Chennai to study Diploma in fine arts in early 1970s.  He was son of famous artist K.C.S. Paniker and he was brought up in an creative environment. Nandagopal’s educational background enabled him to amalgamate  his imaginative expressiveness with the technological complexities that was required to create his sculptures. The animal figurines and rider sculptures of Nandgopal in the late 1960s reflected resemblance to the dhokra metal crafts of the tribes of Central India.
